     The ARM® RealView® Versatile family of feature rich development boards provides an excellent environment for prototyping system-on-chip designs. Through a range of plug-in options, hardware and software applications can be developed and debugged.

   The high performance Versatile family enhances the end-user experience for benchmarking and application development. It simplifies hardware and software development, which shortens time to market.

   This datasheet describes three Core Tiles, which can be stacked on the Versatile Platform Baseboard for ARM926EJ-S, Integrator interface modules, Logic Tiles or third-party boards to create custom systems based around one or more ARM cores.

Core Tile for ARM7TDMI, ARM926EJ-S and ARM1136JF-S

   A Core Tile is a risk free way to add a vendor independent ARM processor to a development system. In Core Tiles the processor is provided inside a test chip. This device is primarily intended for CPU verification, but it can also be used for system prototyping. A test chip is particularly useful to accelerate software development because the ARM core can be clocked at higher frequencies than possible when the CPU is implemented in an FPGA or when the code runs in a simulator.

   The Core Tile for ARM7TDMI has the same interfaces as a raw ARM7TDMI processor. The processor bus interface and configuration signals are routed directly to the stacking headers, so that a complete system on chip can be prototyped on the baseboard.

   Inside the ARM926EJ-S and ARM1136JF-S test chips the processor’s AHB interfaces are multiplexed into a single AHB bus, which is connected to the test chip’s pins. The AHB bus and the processor’s configuration signals are connected to the Core Tile connectors.

   The Core Tile includes ADC and DAC circuits to modify the core voltage and measure the current on the test chip’s power rails. This feature allows the test of power-saving modes and the measurement of power consumption when the core runs with different software loads.

    Supported Configurations
    Verilog RTL, FPGA and PLD bit-files and example software are provided for the following systems:

  • Versatile Platform Baseboard for the ARM926EJ-S + Logic Tile + Core Tile
        - Allows the high performance Versatile/PB926EJ-S to be used as a multi-core development platform
        - The Logic Tile provides dual port RAM, a mailbox and a bridge to allow access to the memory and peripherals on the Platform Baseboard
        - Extra ARM processors can be added to the system as sets of Logic Tile + Core Tile
  • Integrator/IM-LT3 Interface Module + Core Tile
  • Integrator/IM-LT1 Interface Module + Logic Tile + Core Tile
        - The provided FPGA configurations are intended for initial evaluation of ARM processors and basic software development
        - Allows the prototyping of complete custom AHB based systems on the Logic Tile or the IM-LT3 FPGA
  • Integrator/CP + Integrator/IM-LT3 Interface Module + Core Tile
        - Intended for development of complex software applications and AHB compliant hardware peripherals
        - The Integrator/CP baseboard provides 16MB of Flash memory and a number of peripherals: VGA monitor, Color LCD display,
        -Touchscreen, Audio Codec, Keyboard and Mouse interfaces, Ethernet, Multimedia Card Interface and two UARTs.

       A Core Tile can also be used on top of a custom designed board. In this case, the system can be used to emulate a complete ARM based system on chip.
